- Security of Design. Tooling made at PassageMaker's tool shop is delivered to client approved supplier to run production. Then returned to PassageMaker upon completion of production. In this fashion the client is aware of the location of his tooling and need not worry about the sub supplier running extra parts for "back door" orders and such. Often the critical technology is in the mold design. By separating mold maker from production partner, Intellectual Property can be controlled more effectively.

PassageMaker's Code of Conduct for Tooling Quotes is "Transparency and Trust". Unfortunately, there are unethical sales tactics commonly used within China that include:
- Tooling cost is marked up to cover for artificially low per-part price (sometimes below cost) in hopes of getting your order. Once the initial tooling has been paid for and the buyer is locked into the supplier, they may implement a dramatic price increase.
- Conversely, suppliers may offer an artificially low setup cost on tooling (sometimes below cost) to attract your interest, while inflating the per-unit cost. In the long run, the buyer ends up paying much more.
- Other tricks include the use of inexpensive material, reduced number of cavities, poor mold design or high maintenance costs.
At PassageMaker, we have a policy of quoting our true costs of tooling and true unit pricing. This allows the customer to make an educated purchase decision based on total transparency. This transparency goes beyond just price, but also disclosure of:
- Tool life
- Number of cavities
- Core and cavity insert material
- Mold design
- Tolerances to be held
- Runner system
