Greetings from Shenzhen China. My name is David Bruns and I am an American born in the great city of St. Louis in the state of Missouri.
As more and more foreigners are interested in China as a place of employment and a lot of arm chair travelers out there just want to know what it is like here, I decided to write a blog about it.
Here is some background.
After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma, I moved to China in August 2008. After two years of teaching English in China, I got tired of teaching and decided to try and do something a bit more productive with my time which had more of a long term career path.
I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time and was put into contact with my current employer Mike Bellamy, founder of PassageMaker and board member of the China Sourcing Information Center ; (I’m still learning the lingo here so check out www.psschina.com and www.ChinaSourcingInfo.org for a thorough explanation on PM and CSIC ) I met with Mike one afternoon and was hired to be an intern for his company doing several tasks: account management support to the Sr. Account managers performing Vender Coordination, blogging, and admin help with the CSIC’s magazine known as “The China Sourcer”
I’m excited about this opportunity and look forward to tons of challenges that lay ahead (even though I’ve started working part time now and it’s a bit much on the plate). My internship is for a year and I’ll be posting my experiences about China, interning and just learning and growing with the company as the year progresses. Wish me luck; I hope to not be too boring!
